Residence, curate and lecturer: I reside personally on my Cure (the Vicarage of St Andrew's) in a House of my own; there being no Vicarage house for me. I have no Curate. There is a Lecturer (Mr Dodge) who is chosen by the Corporation of Plymouth, under the Authority of an Act of Parliament, and is provided for by the voluntary Contribution of the Inhabitants of the Town.
Other benefices: The Vicarage of St Andrew's is, by Act of Parliament, rendered untenable with any other Benefice with Cure. The only Benefice I have besides is a Prebend of St Peter's Exon.
Frequency of divine service: Divine Service is performed at St Andrew's twice every day throughout the year, with two Sermons every Sunday. The Afternoon Sermon is preached by the Lecturer. There is a Lecture every Wednesday, and an Exposition of the Gospel on Holy days.
Frequency of communion: The Sacrament is administered once a month, except in Lent during which season it is not administered at all. The Number of communicants in general is about 200, and, at the great Festivals, about 300.
Church fabric: The Church & Chancel are in pretty good Repair, & the Churchyard is well kept. We have all things decent for Divine Service.
Glebe terrier: I have properly no Glebe-Lands; but 19 small Houses of which my Predecessor (Mr Mudge) caused an accurate Plan to be drawn, which I have now in my Possession, and shall leave to my Successor.
Number of families: The Number of Houses in my Parish is about 800; in many of which there being more Families than one, the Number of Families may, probably, be not less than 1000.
Chapels: There is a Chapel in the Garrison, served by the Chaplain's assistant (Mr Radcliffe) And a Chapel at Pennicross, annexed to St Andrew's, served by a Curate, appointed by the Vicars of St Andrew's who likewise nominated the Ministers of the Chapelry of East Stonehouse and the Parish of St Budeaux. The Ministers of which Parish have immemorially served the Chapelry of Pennicross & recd to their own use the Surplice Fees & Easter offerings. The present Curate of Pennicross is Mr Alcock; who according to antient custom, officiates at the Chapel once a fortnight.
Papists, dissenters and meeting houses: We have a few reputed Papists. Two Meeting houses. One for Presbyterians served by Mr. Mends. One for Anabaptists served by Mr Gibbs.
School, alms-houses, hospital and charitable endowments: We have a publick Grammar School, endowed with a Dwelling - house, & £30 a year to the Master, paid out of the Town-Revenues. Three inferior Schools, The Green, The Red, and the Blue, supported by a foundation of Lands & Tenements; and a Grey School supported chiefly by voluntary Contribution. Several Almshouses. No Parochial Library.
Charity: Many Benefactions to such uses; and, as I apprehend, all duly applied.
